Strange rock discovered on English shoreline.
A strange rock found at Grange-over-Sands in North-West England looks remarkably like the remains of an ancient column. Although extensively weathered the
grooved outline of the rock is easy to spot. One must remember this is a piece of stone battered by the sea for many hundreds of years.
This is a particularly exciting
find. Ancient ruins of this sort are completely unknown in this area and would completely turn on end the known history of this quaint corner of North West England.
These particular finds are all the more remarkable because they were discovered just below the low water mark of a
local river estuary. This is an area that was once dry land. Further up the coast villages have been abandoned to raised sea levels, and it seems that far back in antiquity this
was a thriving locality.
Mixed Reaction.
Some enthusiasts from the Morecambe Bay area where quick to make exciting connections. There was even speculation the ruins might date from a predeluvian era.
However this enthusiasm does not extend to established experts who so far refuse to even examine the finds.
Unmistakable.
So far it seems that the offici al verdict is that this strange rock represents no more than an interesting pattern carved out by centuries of sea erosion. This is despite the fact that even so the
unpractised eye the resemblance to an ancient column is unmistakable.
Central Groove.
Further evidence that this might be more than just a stone is the discovery of a vertical, smoothly polished groove running
down the centre of the object (see below right) This is similar to grooves found in the centre of ancient Greek columns, and invites speculation that this is indeed. an object deliberately carved by ancient people many hundreds of years
ago.
Neolithic tombs.
Although the stone forms part of the natural rock it was not uncommon for ancient people to carve altars or places for votive offerings out of natural stone. For
instance not far away across Morecambe Bay, the village of Heysham, has several neolithic tombs carved out of the native rock.
Sunken Land.
While little is known of the identity of these tomb carvers, we do know that Morecambe Bay is sunken land once
inhabited. It is therefore likely that further traces of this ancient culture are still there to be found.
It is possible this mystery stone is the product of natural forces. However the existence of the vertical smoothly
polished groove more than hints at the hand of some intelligent artisan. If so it raises important questions regarding the spread and development of ancient peoples at this time.
Is this a pyramid?
Just barely thirty miles from this location a strange hill excites suspicion that it was once a very ancient pyramid.
