Is this an early pyramid mound?
Is the gentle rolling hill of Great Mell Fell in Cumbria, North West England the remains of a gigantic early pyramid built at the dawn of prehistory? Some researchers believe that it is. They point out that Great Mell Fell ( see pics below) bears an uncanny resemblance to the earthen mound of Silbury Hill in the South of England.
Silbury Hill which is pictured below was constructed over 4000 years ago. Like the pyramids of Egypt its exact purpose remains a mystery. It was originally thought to be
a burial mound though this theory has now been discarded. At 130 feet in height it is the tallest mound of its sort in Europe and occupies an area of approximately 5.5 acres
Wealth of finds.
There is no doubt that Silbury Hill is an artificial construction. But what of Great Mell Fell just off road A 5091 in Cumbria,
England? Is this also an early earth mound, or just an ordinary hill? What is immediately apparent is their difference in size. Great Mell Fell rises at least five to six hundred feet above the
surrounding countryside and is taller even than the Great Pyramid of Giza. If this is indeed an early earthmound it is of a colossal size and magnitude. In its favour an ancient
tumulus or grave site was discovered close to its summit and the area is full of Neolithic sites. Barely six miles away is the Castlerigg stone circle, and throughout the district there is a
wealth of tumuli, earth mounds, barrows, and stone circles.
Great antiquity.
If Great Mell Fell is indeed an example of a very early earth mound its age would be astonishing. This is an area that has
largely returned to nature and it is inconceivable that any construction here could have occurred within the period of recorded history. In other words if this is indeed an ancient
construction it would predate the pyramids of Egypt by quite some distance.
Strange rock.
The Lake District of England which encompasses the area of Great Mell Fell has always been noted for its mystery. About
35 miles southwards on the coast at Grange-over-Sands we have uncovered yet another strange side to this already enchanting area. It is a mysterious rock that bears an
unmistakable resemblance to an ancient Greek column. Is this really what it is, or is there a more mundane explanation? Click on the link below and make up your own mind on the matter.
