Mathematical error.
Even maths can be wrong.
We have always been led to believe that if there is any sense of concrete understanding then it lies within the immutable boundaries of mathematics. Indeed we
have been brought up to regard mathematical precision as the ultimate arbiter in matters of science and logic. Unfortunately as we shall soon illustrate , mathematics itself has a number of
in built flaws that have immense consequences for unravelling the secrets of the universe.
Contrary to logic
In the section entitled Big Bang we illustrated that 0 multiplied by any number still equals zero, and that when we divide zero by an number we still finish up
with zero. Then we went one further and added a number to zero and explained the result as still zero and this requires further explanation. For instance if one were to make the calculation 0
+ 2 on a calculator it would give the answer 2. Yet this is surely contrary to logic. But how so?
Logic check
The fact is that if one starts out with zero it means that nothing exists. It is impossible to add any number to nothing because in a state of nothingness, you
cannot manufacture anything to add to it. The peculiar thing is that this devastating logic has escaped the worlds great mathematical brains for hundreds of years. Yet the fact remains that
until now this logic check was never required. Of course if one has no money and then you are given $2, then 0 + 2 does equal 2. The trouble arises when we try to broaden the scope of this
argument to explain how the universe can arise out of nothing! In this case 0 + 0 most definitely equals 0.
Amendment required.
We now arrive at the point where our concept of nothing is in need of urgent revision. In fact we find ourselves with two types of nothing. One is the
conditional nothing to which things can be added ie, 0 hats + 1 hat = 1 hat. Then we have absolute nothing, to which nothing can be added because as we discussed above nothing means a
state of complete non- existence.
Mathematical nightmare.
For science the nightmare situation now arises over whether to employ absolute nothing or conditional nothing. Two types of nothing with two profoundly
different types of logic.
